PenFox: Handwriting & Notes

Smooth ink, pressure and palm rejection

PenFox draws each stroke with quadratic Bézier smoothing so the line stays connected and crisp. The same engine takes a finger, an S-Pen or another stylus. Pressure is read in real time: write lightly for a fine stroke, and press down when you want a bolder line for a heading. Smart palm rejection is built for the way people hold a phone or a tablet. You can rest your palm on the glass while you write, and that contact does not leave a mark. While a stroke is being drawn, touch coordinates, stylus pressure and motion stay in memory on the device. The PenFox privacy policy says those points are not recorded, analyzed or sent outside the local canvas. What you keep is the notebook stored in the app.

Pens, eraser and undo

Four pens cover ordinary notebook work. The ballpoint pen is steady, precise ink for a quick meeting, a checklist or a daily journal. The fountain pen makes calligraphy strokes and changes width with pressure. The highlighter is a soft transparent marker for keywords and study material, so the mark emphasizes a line without covering the text. The pencil has a textured graphite feel for a rough sketch or an outline. The smart eraser includes a stroke eraser and a precision eraser: one removes a whole stroke, the other cleans a small part of a mark. Undo and redo have no limit, so you can step back through a page.

Notebooks, paper and Quick Note

Notebooks have more than one page. You can keep separate books for work, study, ideas and doodles. Paper backgrounds are Clean Blank, Ruled or Lined, Grid or Graph, Dot Grid, Dark Paper, and the Cornell note format. Quick Note is a one-tap scratchpad for a phone number, a formula or a thought you want down immediately. The free app includes two notebooks. A rewarded ad, which you choose to watch, can add one more notebook. PenFox Pro is a one-time purchase on Google Play. It removes the ads for good and removes the notebook limit. Google Play handles the payment, and PenFox does not see your card. On the free app the ads are a banner on list screens, an occasional interstitial when you leave a notebook, an app-open ad when you return, and that rewarded ad. The drawing canvas does not show ads.

How to use it

Open a notebook, choose a paper, and write with a finger, an S-Pen or another stylus. Change pens as the page changes: ballpoint for notes, fountain pen when you want pressure in the stroke, highlighter for study marks, pencil for a sketch. Clear a mistake with the stroke eraser or the precision eraser, then undo or redo as far as you need, and drag text or a stroke to a new place on the page. Export one page as a PNG image, or export the whole notebook as a standard multi-page PDF. Sharing uses Android's share sheet, so a page or a notebook goes to a messaging app, email, a cloud drive or a wireless printer only when you send it. The files are made on the device. The look is classic or Liquid Glass, with accent color mixes, and dark mode for writing at night. Strokes, pages, notebooks and settings stay in the app on the phone. Uninstalling removes them, and you can delete a page or a notebook inside the app. PenFox runs without internet. A connection is used only to load ads, to check a Google Play purchase, and for anonymous usage counts that do not include handwriting, text or notebook names. You can turn those counts off under Settings, then Data, then Share anonymous usage data. Google Play updated the listing on 2 November 2026 with drag for text and strokes, a cleaner tool bar, delete confirmation, full translations, and Pro through Google Play. The Play data-safety form reports no data collected and no data shared with third parties.
